Avocado toast is one of those things that everyone claims they can make at home… until you try the Gluten‑Free Avo Toast from Little Ruby’s Café in Soho and realize, nope, this is a whole different level. Little Ruby’s already has that effortlessly cool, Australian‑in‑New‑York vibe — the kind of place where the energy feels relaxed but still stylish. And their avo toast fits right in. I ordered the gluten‑free version, and honestly, it didn’t feel like a “gluten‑free alternative.” It felt like the main event.

First Impressions

The plate arrived looking like it had been styled for a magazine shoot — bright, colorful, and piled high with toppings. The gluten‑free bread was thick and toasted just right, which is already a win because gluten‑free bread can be… unpredictable. But this slice held its own.

Flavor & Texture

The avo toast has so many flavors, it really was the best one I've had ... anywhere (and I have tried a lot). The tomato spread was definitely a fresh twist with the pickled onions.

  • Tomato spread: Sweet, tangy, and the perfect base layer. It added so much flavor that I’m now questioning why every avo toast doesn’t start with tomato spread.

  • Avocado: Creamy, fresh, and generously piled on — no stingy scoops here.

  • Pickled red onions: Bright, crunchy, and just the right amount of zing. They balanced the richness of the avocado perfectly.

  • Everything bagel seasoning: Salty, nutty, and honestly iconic. It made the whole toast taste like a cross between brunch and your favorite bagel shop.

  • Chili seasoning: A tiny kick that sneaks up on you in the best way. Not too spicy, just enough to keep things interesting.

  • Gluten‑free bread: Soft on the inside, crisp on the outside, and sturdy enough to hold all the toppings without falling apart.

Every bite had this perfect mix of creamy, crunchy, tangy, and spicy. It’s the kind of avo toast that makes you stop mid‑conversation and say, “Okay, wait, this is actually amazing.”

The Vibe

Little Ruby’s in Soho is one of those places where you instantly feel cooler just by sitting there. The atmosphere is lively but not chaotic, the staff is friendly, and the whole café has that sunny, Australian energy that makes you want to stay for hours. It’s the perfect spot for brunch with friends, a solo breakfast, or pretending you’re a local who casually eats avocado toast in Soho on a weekday.
