You know that feeling when you take a bite of something and it's so good you suddenly question everything you've ever known about food? That's exactly what happened the first time I tasted the gluten-free sour dough loaf at the Coffee Bar in Truckee.


First, a little backstory-my family and I have been coming to Coffee Bar since it first opened in 2010 on Jiboom. It's one of those places that feels cozy, like the first place you want to go on a morning in town. We now go to the one on Donner Pass Road, and it was remodeled a couple of years ago, giving it a fresh modern vibe while still keeping that cozy charm.


Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the gluten-free sourdough. I have needed to be gluten free for two years now, and I miss bread the most. This loaf feels, tastes and smells exactly like I remember sourdough, not the typical dry and crumbly gluten free bread that I have tasted in the last couple of years. It's everything that sourdough should be-crusty on the outside, soft and slightly tangy on the inside, and impossibly satisfying. The first time I had it, it was toasted just right, served with a generous smear of butter. The edges are crispy, and the inside is warm and chewy, every bite had that perfect sourdough tang.


Even if you're not gluten-free, this loaf is worth trying. If you ever find yourself in Truckee, CA, do yourself a favor and get to the Coffee Bar (the one on Donner Pass Road). Just get there early, because they sell out around 11 am every morning.
